Inca Fortress of Ollantaytambo

After a short respite in Ollantaytambo, we pass through the Main Square to begin our ascent of the Patacancha Valley. The slopes of the valley are covered with terraces created by the Incas and local people and have been in use long before the Spanish arrived. We will pass through small villages and farmland and by lesser known ruins and archaeological sites of the Incas. Our climb takes us to the village of Willoc where we will have gained over 500 metres in height, from Ollantaytambo, within 11 kilometres. The toughest section of the climb occurs between kilometres 9 and 10. In Willoc we can watch and converse with some of the local weavers who make traditional textile products of excellent quality.

Leaving Willoc we start the much anticipated thrilling descent, to Ollantaytambo, which will reveal to us the vistas that could not be seen or appreciated as much as when we were ascending.

In Ollantaytambo, we will have lunch and afterwards visit 2 of the Tired Stones and the Inca Fortress complex and meander around the town to view other places of interest before returning to Los Jardines.
